What DelayClock is

DelayClock estimates when a game stopped for lightning could resume. We measure lightning flashes reported by NOAA's weather satellites against the stadium's location and run a 30-minute clock that restarts with each flash inside 8 miles.

It is an estimate, and it is not a safety tool. Stadium officials use their own ground-based lightning detectors and make the decisions. Our clock can differ from theirs, in either direction. Never use DelayClock to decide whether it is safe to be outdoors. Always follow the instructions of stadium staff and officials.

DelayClock text alerts

The program. For a game that is delayed or under a lightning hold, you can buy text alerts for that one game. You give us your mobile number, tick a box agreeing to receive the texts, and pay once.

What you will receive. Automated texts about that game only: a confirmation, then alerts such as the clock resetting, 10 minutes to the all-clear, the all-clear, an announced restart time, and play resuming. Message frequency varies with the weather, up to 8 messages for the game. Alerts end when play resumes or the game ends. We never send marketing texts.

Price. $1.00 (US) per game, charged once through Stripe. It is not a subscription and does not renew. Message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.

Stopping and help. Reply STOP to any message to cancel; you will get no further messages. Reply HELP for help, or email help@delayclock.com. Agreeing to receive texts is not a condition of using the free site.

Delivery. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages, and neither are we: texts can be late, and weather moves fast. The live clock on the site is always the most current view.

Refunds. If we fail to send you any alert for a game you paid for, email us and we will refund the $1. Weather resolving quickly after you buy is not a failure to deliver.

Who can sign up. US and Canadian mobile numbers. You must be the account holder or have their permission, and be at least 18.

Using the site

The site is provided as-is, without warranties. To the extent the law allows, The Barrett Group LLC is not liable for decisions made using DelayClock, including travel, attendance, wagering, or safety decisions. DelayClock is not affiliated with any team, league, conference, broadcaster, or NOAA. These terms are governed by the laws of the state where The Barrett Group LLC is organized. We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version.
